Twitter still seems to baffle many people.
But the truth is, Twitter is a lot simpler than it seems. It isn’t continuously changing its algorithms like Facebook or Google, and you don’t have to pay to get strong engagement.
Stick to these 5 simple tips and watch your engagement grow immediately:
1. Add a picture
Did you know if you add a picture to your tweet you can increase engagement by 150%? Yep it’s that effective. You can either purchase an image from iStock or make your own free image using Canva, one of the best cloud programs for attractive shareable content.
2. Use a #hashtag
If you use hashtags, you can increase engagement by 200%. Remember, before using a hashtag that is already created, check its meaning by using Tagdef. Some hastags may not mean what you think they do. DiGiornio Pizza found this out the difficult way when they used the hashtag #whyistayed and started a PR disaster.
3. Schedule your tweets during prime times
Rather than manually trying to calculate the days and times your tweets will have the most impact (or guessing), use the autoschedule tool on Hootsuite. This automatically schedules your tweets to go out when you will get the biggest response from your readers.
4. Use #FF
#FF stands for Follow Friday. Use #FF to recommend Twitter accounts to your followers. So for example if I wanted to recommend that my followers follow @creativewonders, I would write “#FF @creativewonders”. The beauty of #FF is that the people you recommend may reciprocate and your readers will appreciate your recommendation of valuable Twitter accounts to follow.
5. Ask questions
Twitter is similar to real-life interactions. How do you engage people when you meet them? You ask them questions. Twitter is no different. If you see that someone has tweeted content relating to your industry, respond to them and ask them a question.
